Meet Guy.

Guy Finicum, CMHC

Hello, My name is Guy Finicum, I am a husband, father, and grandfather, and for a living I have cleaned floors, built homes, trained horses, ranched, farmed, and more, but for the the last quarter century my main focus has been working as a counselor/therapist.

For years I worked with at-risk adolescents and their families addressing the wide range of human challenges they face. I have also worked for over 10 years providing treatment programming for Utah State Prison inmates. I have experience treating substance and behavioral addictions, anxiety and depression, family relationship problems, childhood and adult trauma, and more. My therapy approach is rooted in straight forward, logical, cognitive theory, but I also recognize that much of our learning lies beyond our awareness in the subconscious mind, and that it is necessary to apply a wide range of approaches to address deep destructive programming from our past. I have trained in EMDR, provided Equine Assisted Psychotherapy, and hold a certification in Psychedelic Assisted Psychotherapy, and I understand the power of experiential learning. I am also a current member of the Utah Sex Offense Task Force and recognize misunderstood and misapplied sexual feelings and behaviors to be one of the most impactful and under addressed problems facing our society today resulting in addiction, abuse, emotional isolation, and deep human suffering. Just as most of our dysfunctions were learned in the context of damaged relationships, it is necessary to engage in and learn to create healthy relationships to heal our past and create future happiness.

As a counselor, it is my role to create a safe, supportive space where you feel heard, understood, and empowered to engage new learning and make meaningful changes as you continue on in your already remarkable life journey.
